I just fielded three very similar questions from three different customers that I’ve been involved with regarding the design and/or deployment of FIM 2010. The questions, paraphrased, were when will FIM 2010 R2 release and when will there be a beta.
The official release date hasn’t been communicated outside of the NDA roadmap provided to partners and customers who’ve signed the NDA so I cannot communicate that timeline however Microsoft have made available public information on the new feature set and the community evaluation program, or CEP –the beta, basically, for those of you not on the Technical Adoption Program (TAP).
The best source of information for the new feature set in my opinion is the TechEd presentation “Technical Overview of Microsoft Forefront Identity Manager 2010 R2” by Brjann Brekkan and Mark Wahl.
- The slides from that presentation can be downloaded from here.
- The details about the CEP (the datasheet) can be found here.
- The nomination form for the CEP can be found here.
The big news unveiled by Brjann and Mark is the new Reporting feature, which utilises System Center Data Warehouse (SCDW) and, of course, Web-based Self Service Password Reset (SSPR), i.e. SSPR over the Internet with no dependency on domain joined workstations. David has a post summarising the session here.
As and when more information is available I’ll post it here, if appropriate.
